Author K.A Vanderhoef visited Lakeland Regional High School’s Library Media Center for an Author Talk event on March 12, 2026.

Ms. Spoelstra, LRHS’s Library Media Specialist, teamed up with Hailey Terracino, the Young Adult Coordinator at Ringwood Public Library, to host the event. Together, they provided students with a firsthand look at the journey of writing and publishing through an author’s perspective, while offering a dive into the world of Vanderhoef’s Dreamborn trilogy.
Vanderhoef, a Ringwood resident, originally reached out to the town library to organize a speaking engagement. After a collaborative effort between all parties, the event was held at Lakeland Regional HS, allowing Vanderhoef to share her professional experiences and her novels with the school community.

The event opened with an introduction from Vanderhoef and then went into guided questions led by Ms. Spoelstra and Terracino. Vanderhoef then read an excerpt from her debut novel, A Dance of Storm and Starlight, before opening the floor for a student Q&A.
According to Ms. Spoelstra, Vanderhoef shared her journey in a way that was both relatable and encouraging for students and staff.
The session opened with an introduction from Vanderhoef, followed by a series of guided questions led by Ms. Spoelstra and Ms. Terracino.
Vanderhoef also discussed her path to self-publishing through Amazon. She explained that while she initially pursued traditional publishing routes, she encountered numerous dead ends and closed doors. Choosing to take the lead, she decided to self-publish and hire her own editorial team.
The event saw a strong turnout, with 24 students and seven staff members in attendance.
Students interested in reading the Dreamborn trilogy can find Vanderhoef’s novels in the LRHS Library Media Center (Call Number: FIC VAN).
