On June 5th-6th, The Lakeland drama club will be presenting a play called The Real Story Of Alice In Wonderland.
This play is a take on Alice in Wonderland that has a “Nice Alice” and “Mean Alice”. The story itself is told by two siblings: Pip, who tells the story of Mean Alice, and Squeak, who tells the story of Nice Alice. Both narrators cut each other off while telling the story to try to tell the audience what really happens when Alice is in Wonderland.
In both stories, Alice still chases the white rabbit. However, in Mean Alice’s story, played by junior Madelyn Jones, she hunts down the white rabbit to try to eat him. In Nice Alice’s story, she acts more like the Disney version of Alice with a sweet and caring persona. Nice Alice in general is more confused by the story and overall just wants to go home.
Meanwhile, Mean Alice, played by sophomore Maggie McGinty, spends her entire time in Wonderland terrorising the poor creatures of the land, beating them up as she ventures further into Wonderland.
Directed by Mrs. Gentile and the senior members of Drama Club, the play is a testament to the effort, time, and care that the cast put into the play. To experience the lesser known story of Alice for yourself, theatergoers are encouraged to reserve tickets for the Friday June 5th performance or Saturday June 6th performances at 2pm and 7pm in the Lecture Hall. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time for $5 using PaySchools or by emailing [email protected] for more information.
