BTS Works to #Endviolence

BTS is working to promote an end to child and teen violence by promoting self acceptance.

The famous K-pop group BTS have been working to protect children and teens from domestic and school violence and stop sexual assault around the world through the #ENDviolence campaign.     

Throughout this this year and last, the band has been promoting the campaign. On September 24, 2018, famous K-pop group BTS spoke at the United Nations General Assembly at U.N. headquarters. Months before the meeting, BTS and their team collaborated with UNICEF Korea to start the campaign on November 1, 2017. This campaign aims to promote a healthy and safe environment. On top of this work, BTS created the ‘Love Myself’ Campaign, which promotes love to make a better life for everyone.

Group member Rm was the one to speak at the U.N. General Assembly with his ‘Speak Yourself’ speech. Rm talked about self-acceptance. He said, “No matter who you are or where you’re from, your skin color, your gender identity, speak yourself. BTS wants people to keep following their goals and continue to be a positive influence.”

BTS has raised over $1.4 million through album sales. This money will be used to help provide an education for violence prevention. Their latest and newest album is called Love Yourself: Answer; the album was released August 24, 2018. This album talks about finding your true self and loving who you are. The boys express themselves through their lyrics, music videos, and songs. Their song “Idol” talks about success and power; they don’t let any haters ruin their dreams.

BTS, or Bangtan Sonyeondan in Korean, is a seven membered group with 4 vocalists and 3 rappers. Rm is the main rapper and leader of the group; he can speak fluent English. He learned his English from watching the show Friends. Then there is Jhope and Suga who are also rappers in the group. Lastly, Jin, Jimin, V, and Jungkook are all the vocalists. The boys have been together since 2012 and debuted June 12, 2013. Ever since the boys have been together, they have focused on delivering messages of comfort to people. BTS was featured in Time magazine as “Next Generation Leaders.”

“Life has many unpredictable issues, problems, dilemmas,” says Rm. “But I think the most important thing to live well is to be yourself. We’re still trying to be us.”
