Alexis Gonzalez was nominated for Students of the Month in athletics for fencing by Mrs. Keri Sutton. Gonzalez showed extreme gratitude and happiness upon receiving the award.
As a freshman, Gonzalez holds an extraordinary record of 83% wins which Mrs. Sutton said is “unprecedented [and] she has stepped up to an unofficial leadership role by dedicating her time to mentoring teammates.”
Gonzalez stood out tremendously by working hard all year. With five years of fencing experience, this is her first year of fencing at Lakeland.
“Going to other schools and meeting many new people” is her favorite part of fencing. She loves the new opportunities and overall interacting with new faces.
Gonzalez truly deserves this award truly for her leadership and passion. She always shows resilience and kindness through her personal life and the sport of fencing. She also knows how to take experiences and bring them into practice to continually improve upon herself.
Mrs. Sutton said, “she is truly a leader and exemplifies what it means to be a Lancer in a way!”
