LRHS Field Hockey: County Champions Twice Over

The Lakeland Regional High School field hockey team ended their 2018 fall season meeting their highly set goals, which included becoming the Passaic County Champions for the second time in Lakeland’s history.

Coach Patty Kebrdle described the season as great, with a 14-5-1 record, exceeding their goal of 13 wins. Two of those wins met another season goal, beating rival school, the West Milford Highlanders.

To add to those accomplishments, one of the wins against West Milford came in the Passaic County field hockey final, a rematch of last year’s title game that ended with the Highlanders winning in overtime.

The county final was a thrilling game, going to double overtime at 0-0. Leave it to senior Alex Barna, one of the two leading scorers, to score the the winning goal.

According to Coach Kebrdle, the team could not have done it without the help of junior Kiera Marks, a stupendous athlete who was a significant difference maker all season; Barna, the offensive leader who scored the county championship goal; senior Ashley Davison, the defender who lead the team to 12 shutouts this year; and  freshman Abby Slaman, rookie of the year.

LRHS field hockey ended strong, and looks forward to another successful season next year.
