The Lancers shined on the ice this year, winning many games and having fun as a team

There is no denying that the Lakeland Regional High School Ice Hockey team always leaves an impression, and the Lancers did just that again this year. From 13 victorious wins to attracting large and enthusiastic student sections, the 2021-2022 hockey season was one to remember.

This past season, the Lancers achieved many goals together as a team, including their ultimate target of making it to states. Junior Charlie Wogisch explained that the team was unsure if they would be able to advance to states considering the vast number of seniors that graduated last year, but the team “did and were ranked the  No. 12 seed.”

Both Wogisch and senior Vincent Stoffel recall beating Mahwah and Wayne as two of the most exciting moments of the season. The team defeated Mahwah in the second week of the season, giving them a wave of confidence. This confidence later helped lead the team to success in their second game versus Wayne, filling the Lancers with a sense of redemption after they had previously lost 10-2.

Wogisch and Stoffel are proud of their entire team, but each highlighted a particular player they felt truly made a positive impact on the ice this year. For Wogisch, it was junior Brendan Ross. . If it were not for Ross and his incredible performances this year, Wogisch feels the season would not “have gone the way it did.” For Stoffel, junior Tristan Davison really made a difference this season. Without Davison, the Lancers “line up really struggled,” showing just how much of an asset he was to the team this year.

While the Lancers love their time on the ice, not all the team’s memories are made there. For Wogisch, one of his favorite memories this season was going “to a Devil’s game for captain’s night.” Stofell recalls the fun times the team had going out to eat “after practice,” and bonding with his teammates through the sport they love most.

The Lakeland community congratulates the Lancers on a wonderful 2021-2022 ice hockey season. On behalf of The Lancer Ledger, we cannot wait to see what this group of talented athletes accomplishes in the future.
