The team, that lost 6 seniors last year, are looking forward to building on the skills they mastered this season.

LRHS boys varsity volleyball described their spring 2019 season as “up and down,” but with the loss of 6 key varsity players and a team learning the sport, the boys held their own.

This season, the team had to rebuild and were aware on how difficult it was going to be to keep up with last season and how well it went. Although they didn’t meet their goal of making it to states, every player fought hard and did their best.

Some key players this year was seniors Josh Caggiano and Connor Conklin. Caggiano was the only starter returning from last season.

Coach Brian Phillips, also a physical education teacher at LRHS, shared with The Ledger how Caggiano and Conklin helped bring the team together this season. He said, “He (Caggiano) was a great hitter for the team, and made 1st team all county and conference for the team. He also led the team in kills this season with 193. Conklin did a great job stepping in as our setter this season. He did a great job running our offense and being a team leader. He finished with 398 assists this year.”

Underclassmen players on the team show potential after gaining valuable experience this year. Next season, the team looks forward to improving and contending again.
