The Lakeland boys’ track team has been beyond successful over the past few years. With four straight county titles, Twin Boro Relay champions, and a recent conference title, the team is looking to win counties and conference again, and hopefully end the season with a state win.

For the last four years, Lakeland track was lucky enough to have star athlete Kelvin Gonzalez, who greatly succeeded in the the 100M sprint, long jump, and the high jump. This year, the team is intent to see who rises up to the challenge of becoming the next star.

This season, there are about 80 boys that are part of the track team. Hopefully, the boys are able to rise up and bring the team to where they need to be, and with 16 different events, these athletes have a lot to choose from and improve in.

Some returning key athletes this season are senior Hasson Klingen, running the 100M sprint, 200M sprint, and long jump; junior Jesse Campoverde, running the 3200M and 1600M race; senior and sophomore Chris and TJ McCormack, throwing shot put and discus; junior Carlos Cuevas, running the 400M and 200M; senior Taylor Boorse, throwing javelin; and junior Zach Voll, running the 800M.

Part of this success of the team is due to the amazing coaching techniques displayed by Coach Damaino Conforti and Coach Tom McCormack. They work their athletes hard and push them to their fullest potential.

As of now, Lakeland is ranked one of the top teams in the the area and has high expectations for the upcoming season. The team’s first official meet is on April 2 at home against Passaic Valley.

Good luck to the Lakeland Lancers boys spring track team this season!
