Not So Super Bowl: Patriots Win in Low Scoring Game

Every year in February some lucky and very talented NFL players get to live out their dreams by playing in the Super Bowl. The New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams played on February 3, 2019 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. This lead to the Patriots getting their sixth Lombardi Trophy, beating the Rams 13-3.

To some, the game was an upset, with many, like TheRinger.com, predicting a ring for the Rams. Whether you consider it an upset or not, the game was slow, with both teams struggling to score.

The Rams first half was no where close to good. They were held to zero points and had to punt almost every drive. The Patriots were not any better. They were held to only three points throughout the first two quarters. At least the Patriots  had some glimpse of light with wide receiver Julian Edelman. The little guy was a man on a mission in the first half and brought it to the end of the game.

The second half wasn’t any better for both teams. Although the Rams did make it a competitive game, shutting out the Patriots in the third quarter, the lack of score made for a lack of excitement.

In the fourth quarter, the Patriots would finally score the games first (and only) touchdown, after handing the ball of to running back Sony Michel. The Rams would have to match this score if they wanted to tie the game up. But with about four minutes left in the game at New England’s 27-yard line, Rams quarterback Jared Goff would be intercepted by Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore, crushing all of the Rams momentum. With the Rams down, the Patriots running backs Michel and Rex Burkhead were able to lead the Patriots into field goal range, and kicker Stephen Gostkowski made a game clinching field goal.

After the game was over, Edelman, who dominated the game on the offensive side of the ball, was named games MVP.

This win gives Tom Brady and the Patriots their sixth Super Bowl, which leaves them tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers for most Super Bowl wins.
