Club Highlight: Service Club

LRHS allows students to pursue their interests, and cultivate new ones along the way. One way Lakeland does this is with their wide array of clubs.

Relay for Life attendees lined the track as the survivors walked their own special lap, an event hosted by LRHS’ Service Club.

In Service Club, students help the community and other large organizations like Relay for Life and St. Jude’s. The Service Club has projects at every meeting where they band together for a good cause. For example, every year the club hosts a Relay for Life at the track to raise money for the American Cancer Society. People from all over town come to the event to play games, walk, run, donate, and most importantly help a good cause.

On why students should consider joining the club, advisor Brenda Furgusen said, “It is a great opportunity for students to get involved in the community and set themselves apart from the rest.”

Other services of the club include stuffing Christmas stockings for soldiers, decorating the school like for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, selling lollipops, hosting events, and volunteering in the community whenever possible.

When asked about the club, LRHS junior Brianna Rodriguez said, “I love being a part of service club because it makes the school and the community a better place. It also feels rewarding to support good causes.”
