With a history of achieving its goals and competing at high levels, varsity baseball hopes to bring home a title this season.

The spring season is a sign that high school baseball around the country has begun. This year, over 50 LRHS students tried out for the for the team.  The Lakeland baseball team has a history of achieving its goals and competing at high levels. Unfortunately, with graduation last year, the team lost many good players; however, the team will have many other good players ready to step up and take on the challenge.

Returning players are going to attempt to fill those players’ shoes and try to bring yet another state championship to Lakeland.

On being asked about his thoughts for the upcoming season, sophomore outfielder Sean Mena said, “You know, last season we started off great and towards the middle of the season we started to crumble.  I believe if the guys bounce back and keep the bar high, we can bring another title home for Lakeland.” Almost the entire program has the same thoughts as Mena, and this enthusiasm is good sign for this upcoming season.

The baseball team will compete against their  rivals West Milford, Wayne Valley, and St. Joseph’s. These games are huge because of the history between the teams. During the games it’s always competitive and tense. Last year’s games between these teams resulted in Lakeland hitting walk off hits to win the games.

This year’s team is going to keep the same energy and compete to win against these rivalries.  The team hopes to compete in the playoffs for a state championship.
