Review: Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is no family-friendly 90’s sitcom. Based on the successful Archie comic books series, the new Sabrina brings thrills and chills, leading to your next Netflix binge.

The 10 episode series is a Netflix original and released, quite fittingly, before Halloween of 2018. It follows the life of Sabrina Spellman, who must choose between becoming a full witch or staying mortal on her 16th birthday, all while trying to keep her family, friends, town and world safe from villainous witches, warlocks, and dark forces.  Over the course of the series, Sabrina struggles with the decision to sign the Book of the Beast and surrender her freedoms to the Dark Lord to make her witch family happy and stay with her mortal boyfriend and friends who bring so much joy and happiness to her life. Viewers learn how much Ms. Spellman and her fellow witches and warlocks give up in order to become powerful beings.

The series isn’t all dark however. There are some great and lighter subplots. Sabrina and Harvey Kinkle’s relationship, for instance, is the epitome of what a high school romance should be (well, for the most of the series at least). And Sabrina and her BFFs, Roz Walker and Susie Putman, make viewers long for the loyalty and companionship they share. You’ll also find yourself amused with Sabrina’s aunt Hilda, who serves as the comedy relief in some of the more tense moments of the series.

We’re not the only one with praise for the show. Among other positive reviews, it got a 90% approval rating by Rotten Tomatoes, making it “Certified Fresh.”
