Lakeland’s STEP program won the 2018 Door Decorating Competition, led by special education teacher, Ms. Karen McCormack. Honorable mention was given to Ms. Caitlin Vauter and Ms. Teresa’s classroom (room 208) and Mr. William Veres and Ms. Danielle Osborne’s LEARN class (room 407).

Ms.McCormack told the Lancer that the STEP program came up with the idea for the door based off what they do in the program. The STEP program is a vocational transition program that places students within job sites around the community.  Some of the jobs that the students currently work at are Dunkin Donuts, Skyline Pizza, Ringwood Paint, Stop and Shop, Brady’s Prime 15, CVS and Skylands Learning Center.

According to Ms. McCormack, the main theme was  “Hi-ho, hi-ho, it’s off to work we go,” based off the movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The door does not only depict the seven dwarf going off to work, but also the students in the program working at their jobs.

The class was awarded a special trophy created by  technology education teacher, Mr. Randy Coren, and his Design Tech class.

As a new school tradition, each year the contest rolls around again, the trophy will be passed down to the new winner of the Door Decorating Competition.
