With a record of 11 wins to nine losses, the 2023 season for the Lakeland Regional High School varsity golf team could certainly be described as successful.

According to golf Coach Joseph Cervino, Passaic county’s Golf Coach of the Year, some highlighted games would be the wins against two conference opponents, West Milford and Passaic Valley, exceeding the expectations that were set upon them.

The match between Lakeland and West Milford took place on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. The match was intense for both schools seeing as they are rivals and the results of the game could mean shame on the other school. The match was won by Lakeland with an overall score of 208. A star player in this match was senior Tristan Davison who took the meet by storm.

Even though the success wouldn’t have occurred without the entire team, one player in particular showed his talent immensely. Davison was named First Team All Conference and additionally First Team All County. With both these honors, Davison demonstrated hard work and dedication to his sport.

When interviewed by the Lancer Ledger, Davison doesn’t take all the credit for the team’s success. He states the team had a lot of new talent that helped bring them to where they were.

Coach Cervino also has high hopes for the new players, stating that the team “might look to enter more tournaments next season.”

Overall, Coach Cervino and his players are content with the outcome of the season and hope to have an even better one next season.
