The NCAA March Madness tournament makes March one of the hottest months for sports.

March is possibly the most entertaining month in American sports. Every sport has something to offer to viewers that gets people excited every year. From one the biggest tournaments in all of sports to the off season rumors of the countries most popular sport, this month has it all.

Basketball

March is probably the most entertaining month for the sport of basketball as the NBA season is just passing the halfway point of the season and the trade deadline is on the 25th this year. This is the point of the season where teams find out if they can make a run to the playoffs, and they might try to make a trade to improve their roster. Then there are the teams that are at the bottom of the league and looking to sell off players and build for the future.

The NCAA tops the NBA when it comes to interest in the month as they have the men’s basketball national tournament. This year’s tournament has been one of the most anticipated tournaments in recent years because the 2020 tournament had been cancelled due to COVID-19. The tournament averages around 10 million viewers every year, and this year there were and according to ESPN, 14.7 million brackets filled out by people trying to become the first person to correctly predict every game.

Hockey

The NHL also has a pretty interesting month of March. With the shortened season, every game matters more, and with the change in the schedule, every team is playing teams in their division, making for a very entertaining end of the season. Teams entered the month with around 20 games played and will end the month with around 35 games played. This month will help determine which teams have a good chance of making the playoffs, and the teams that should start looking to the future.

Baseball

The month of March might not be the most exciting for the MLB, as the regular season doesn’t start until April 1st this year, but it is important nonetheless. Teams are making the last adjustments to their rosters, having to make the tough decision of if a player should be on the major league team, optioned to the minors, or cut. With a month and a half spring training wrapping up, there is a lot of anticipation from fans for this upcoming season. These spring training games have always been pretty entertaining, even though they don’t count.

Football

The same could be said about football: March is the most exciting month for the sport. The NFL’s free agency period starting in the middle of March creates a lot of buzz around the league as teams try to improve their rosters.

Also, college draft prospects are having their pro days where they get one last chance to show scouts their skills. With the draft not being held until late April, the results of the pro days will heavily influence any discussion about the sport for the next month.

With probably the most popular tournament in collegiate sports, the NBA and NHL seasons in full swing, the MLB season just about to start, and the NFL off-season heating up, March is arguably one of the most entertaining months in sports.
