As the girls volleyball season has come to an end, the team is reflecting on a season of change and growth. The team showed improvement over the season, even though the record may not show it.
The girls record this year was 6-15.
Coach Brian Phillips said, “We did grow as as team and there were several improvements that may not have translated record-wise, but showed our potential and has us excited for next season.”
The team is grateful for its two seniors, Kendall Struble and Shavahn Mercedes, for all the effort they have put into this team over their years at Lakeland.

There were two freshmen who made it on varsity this season as well, Kayla Struble and Gabby Prell. Struble is an outside hitter for the team and received an Honorable Mention for All Conference.
Some other star players this season were sophomores Gia Moreno and Lia Botsolas along with junior Madelyn Jones. Moreno played as the libero for the team and her coach shared that, “She came into her own as the leader of our defense.”
Jones is a setter, and she played as a leader for the offense. Lastly Botsolas, who is a very good all around player, sadly suffered a shoulder injury towards the end of the season, but that doesn’t change the fact that she had a great season.
Lakeland is looking forward to seeing what these girls do next fall. The coach and players hope to see the girls’ team continue to grow and improve. They took many hits and learned many lessons, but one thing is for sure- this amazing group is coming back next year with something to prove.
