The 2025 Met Gala was an eventful, star-studded, and fashionable night. All those in attendance went all out in their outfits on the glamorous, blue-carpet night of May 5, 2025 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City.
The Theme
To start off, the theme of the Met Gala, which correlates to its new exhibit, was “Superfine:Tailoring Black Style.” The theme was based on exposing the importance of Black identity throughout American history. The exhibit starts with Black fashion from 300 years ago and ends with dandyism. Black dandyism is a movement in fashion that stared in 18th century Britain, but really took off during the Harlem Renaissance. According to Vogue, the movement served as purpose to “reject the limitations placed on Black people in America” by wearing tailored, sharp suits, polished shoes, bow ties that “emphasized refinement.” Black dandyism is about more than just fashion; it’s about rights.
The Blue Carpet
The designer Cy Gavin decorated the blue carpet with flowers. Gavin also has a painting that was projected inside the event. This is no average carpet; it is expensive and beautiful – a $33 million dollar rug with the white and yellow daffodils scattered around the edge.

The fashion at the Met gala was stunning and inspiring. Some of the iconic outfits were worn by Rihanna, who was wearing a navy blue suit by Marc Jacobs. A$AP Rocky was wearing a black suit custom made by his designer AWGE with a white button up top, black vest classic tie, and black black slacks. Emma Chamberlain was wearing a beautiful dress that almost doubled as a suit, made by Nicolas Di Felice gown. Check out all the fashion here.
Met Gala Bans
And with a lot of fashion and beauty, some people were not allowed at the Met Gala. One of those that is confirmed is President Donald Trump. Reportedly on the Late Late Show with James Corden in 2016, Anna Wintour, Vogue’s editor-in-chief, said he was banned from the Gala shortly after he was elected because she “has no intention of ever inviting him.”
Although he is not banned, Zayn Malik, who was dating Gigi Hadid in 2016,went with her to the Met Gala that year. The singer told GQ, “I’d rather be sitting at my house doing something productive than dressing up in really expensive clothes and being photographed on a red carpet… To do the self-indulgent ‘look at me, I’m amazing’ thing on the red carpet, it’s not me.”
Lili Reihart, she was banned from Met Gala because back in 2022 she criticized Kim Kardashian for her dieting choices so she can fit into her Marilyn Monroe dress. Reihart posted on Instagram, “To openly admit to starving yourself for the sake of the Met gala. When you know very well that millions of your men and women are looking up to you and listening to your every word. That ignorance is otherworldly disgusting”.
And now, this year, Demi Lovato, Gwenyth Paltrow, Amy Schumer, and Rachel Zoe weren’t invited for publicly bashing their experiences.
