As the fall 2023 season comes to a close, Lakeland Regional High School has many sports to be proud of. One such sport is girls field hockey, which ends with a winning record of 12-6-1. Throughout the course of the season, the girls overcame many changes and created a close environment leading them to success.
This season was “a transition year,” according to Coach Patty Kebrdle. Since Lakeland welcomed the new turf field and many new players this season, teams had to adjust to new practice schedules and change the way they work together. Initially these changes affected the playing rhythm and team dynamic, but the Lady Lancer’s persevered and ended successfully.
The team’s three head captains, seniors Ashley Hammerle, Jamie Triolo, and Kylen Trossman, and co-assistant captains, juniors Emily Kebrdle and Gianna Peralta, all played a big role in creating a fun environment for the team to grow.
In addition to a successful season as a team, many players had notable personal milestones. Goalie Drew Burek, junior, reached over 100 career saves. E. Kebrdle achieved more than 100 offensive points, making her the first junior in over 25 years to achieve this milestone.
For Passaic county, Emily Becker, junior, and Hammerle are All County honorable mentions; Triolo and Cindi Berkemeyer, sophomore, are All County Second Team; Trossman, Peralta, and E. Kebrdle are All County First Team. In the conference, Burek is an honorable mention; second team is Hammerle and Berkemeyer; first team is E. Kebrdle, Peralta, Trossman, and Triolo. In addition to all of these accomplishments, captains Triolo and Trossman were selected to play in the North Jersey all star game.
In early November, Captain Triolo signed to play division three field hockey at Wittenberg University.
This successful season has set field hockey players up for another great season next year and a lifetime love of the sport. Captain Trossman told the Ledger, “I learned a lot of valuable things in my [field hockey] career that I will carry into my future career and life.” Players are sad this fun-filled season has come to a close and look forward to growing the team and working towards another successful season in the fall of 2024.
