Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 came out in theaters November 21, 2018, following up the 2012 Wreck-It Ralph movie which was a big success. I went to see the movie last weekend with my friend as the first movie was very good. However, I was only 9 at the time of the first, but I still had high expectations for the sequel, and it did not let me down.
The movie focuses more on the friendship between Ralph and Vanellope, the iconic racer from the racing game Sugar Rush in Wreck-It Ralph. The pair are met with many obstacles that will question the state of their friendship. The movie starts off with Vanellope and Ralph six years later after the first movie. You can infer that Vanellope starting to get bored with her life and tries to seek something new. When she finds a new game in the internet she wants to call home, Ralph wants her to stay and starts to get angry. This is the main plot of the story, how the friends start realizing they don’t have the best of friendship they thought they did.
The story continues by Ralph holding Vanellope back from doing things that would make her happy. When Vanellope decides that she is considering staying in the other game and not Sugar Rush, Ralph tries to sabotage the game by releasing a virus to make Vanellope change her mind. Vanellope finds out, runs away, and rips the best friend necklace off Ralph’s neck.
Unfortunately, this is the part that Ralph starts to break the Internet. The virus comes out of the game and creates duplicates of Ralph that end up destroying the internet and chase after Vanellope. It is up to the real Ralph to get over himself and defeat the monster that is created by all the Ralphs clones and fueled by his insecurities. Vanellope and Ralph both get captured from the monster in attempts to stop it. Vanellope tells the monster they can have her and that she won’t leave. But then Ralph swoops in and corrects his mistake for holding Vanellope back. Ralph talks about how insecure and scared he was because of Vanellope leaving him. Vanellope reassures him that being best friends doesn’t mean you have to be by each other every single second of the day, you just have to be there each other and want the best for them even if it means you won’t see them as much. The Ralph duplicates are defeated by the power of friendship, and Vanellope makes the decision she is going to fulfill her dreams and join the game she wants to call home.
The movie ends with a scene of Ralph and Vanellope saying they will miss each other, but will always keep their friendship no matter what.
The movie taught a lesson on how to be a real friend instead of holding back the people you love just because it affects you. In my opinion this movie can be for everyone – it teaches a lesson and is very family friendly. I give Ralph Breaks the Internet a 100% recommendation!
