The NFL has endured many dreadful teams in its history, however it appears that the current New York Jets are about to make a run for one of the most abysmal teams in the sport’s history. Rivaling teams like the 2007 Miami Dolphins or the 1987 Atlanta Falcons for one of the worst records in the season, the Jets are sinking into an abyss.

The Jets are currently sitting on a record of 0-7 for the season after failing to win any pre-season games to renew hope for its fanbase. On Sunday October 19, the Jets suffered another unfortunate loss to the Panthers 13-6. This loss may have put the Jets at risk to capture that terrible losing record of 0-16 by the end of the season. This loss also reveals a scary pattern with the Jets and their losses. In nearly all of the games that the Jets have lost, it was by less than a touchdown. Against the Broncos, they lost 13-11, against the Dolphins they lost 27-21, and against the Buccaneers, they lost 29-27. This unimpressive string of losses shows that the Jets can fly a plane, but they can’t land it.
The Jets’ collection of losses is probably due to a number of reasons, one of which is an unfortunate series of season-ending injuries. According to ESPN, Sauce Gardner could be out due to a concussion, as could Kene Nwangwu, while Jay Tufele could be out due to a knee injury. Players’ injuries could partially explain why we’ve seen the Jets struggle so much this season.
The Jets losses could also be attributed to the team’s management. Earlier this year, the Jets signed a new general manager, Darren Mougey, who used to be the assistant general manager for the Broncos. The team may also be suffering from a poor adjustment to the change in leadership after the firing of Coach Robert Saleh among other challenges.
Fans have struggled to see the Jets perform this season and many are disappointed with the team. LRHS teacher and football coach Mr. Thomas McCormack said that in order for the Jets to improve, they would need to “fire everyone and hire the Lakeland Coaches.”
McCormack also said that the Jets could still manage to get a win because “even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while.”
This description could not be more accurate as in their last game, it seemed that the Jets really were blind with quarterback Justin Fields completing only nine of 17 attempted passes. Fields was also sacked a staggering nine times. According to MSM, this was “The worst game he’s ever had.”
This could explain why the QB was benched partway through the game. McCormack said that he had one theory as to why the Jets are losing so much. “Mr Conforti mentioned 20 years ago to me during lunch that he thinks the NY Jets will be in the Super Bowl soon. JINX!”
