The Lakeland boys track and field team had a truly amazing 2025 season, seeing many of its athletes advance as far as groups.
The season as a whole saw vast improvement from previous years. Last year saw the team beat only one other team, but this year would see them beat many and have some big wins at the county relays, placing first. Another massive achievement this year was during the senior night meet when Senior Brody McCormack broke the school record for discus, which he had previously set in the 2024 season.
The sprinting team was also able to do very well this year and kept getting better through the season. This was shown with juniors Logan Gray qualifying for groups in the 100 meter and Zachary Post qualifying for groups with the 400 meter.
Some other amazing athletes that qualified for groups were distance runners junior Evan Caldwell for the 3200 meter and senior Joshua Donza for the 4×800 meter relay. Freshman Daniel Seminara, junior Jesse Freedman, Caldwell, Donza, and Mccormack would place for both shot put and discus, and senior Greg Ehrmann for javelin.

On the season and his part in it, Gray said, “Overall, I’m happy, but on a personal level things were not ideal.” Gray is happy with the season and how the team did, but he had some injuries leading him to not participating in some meets. However, Gray was able to bounce back and even qualified for groups in the 100 meter.
Senior Luke Krafton said his favorite meet was “either the senior night meet or county relays.” The county relay was a very popular favorite meet this year to many athletes because of the atmosphere before and during the big win.
When asked about what advice they would give to next year’s track team, Freedman said, “Have fun, make friends, run fast.” Krafton would further add, “Stick with the events you want to do and listen to your body. If you need rest then rest it’s not working getting injured over.”
