Lakeland Regional High School’s golf team has finished its Spring 2025 season with a record of two wins and five losses. The team has gotten a lot more experienced throughout the season but unfortunately many will be unable to be on the team next season.
The season started off rough for the golf team with two losses. However, they bounced back and were able to claim a win against Hawthorne with a score of 173-194. Then a few days later, the team triumphed over West Milford, scoring their second win with a score of 182-210.
The team also qualified and participated in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association golf tournament. While they did not win, the team was still able to put up a good fight nonetheless.
Commenting on how he thought the season went, Junior Matthew VanderWeele said, “[The season was] good because we all improved over the off season and picked up more wins than last year.” Coach Joseph Cervino also agreed saying, “We also had some great individual success. The team was led by top players Matt VanderWeele and Ryan Giordano.”

This coming off season will be incredibly important for the team next year as they attempt to recruit more players. Coach Cervino said, “Next year will be a rebuilding year from a team standpoint as we graduate five senior starters.”
Next year is going to be a very important year for the team as they work hard to be ready for the course. If you are interested in golf or want to participate in a successful spring sport team it might be the perfect time to join the golf team.
