The Lakeland Regional High School’s spring sports season is officially underway. The sports of this season have a history of excellence and championship wins. The season will close out the 2024-2025 school year with entertaining performances, and a busy schedule.
Girls Lacrosse:

(LRHS)
After losing 11 valuable seniors last season, the young players of the LRHS girls lacrosse team are expected to step up to any challenge they may face this season. With lots of valuable players like senior Gianna Peralta, senior Kasey Killian, junior Sarina D’Orilia, and sophomore Myla Gotschall, the team is stacked with success. Last season, the team doubled their wins from the season before. This can be credited to their coach, Ms. Erin Murphy, who has 176 wins in total as head coach.
Boys Lacrosse:

(LRHS)
The boys lacrosse team is looking forward to a fresh start this season with new head coach, Mr. Ryan Burgess. Although the loss of many valuable seniors last season may affect their record this year, the team has young players that are ready to step up. Seniors Andrew Gleason and Collin Sabric seem to be great leaders ready to support the young team.
Baseball:
The defending Passaic County Champions are looking forward to an eventful season. After losing six valuable seniors and three talented sophomores, the team needs more players to step up to the plate. However, with an astounding record of 20-8 and valuable players like seniors Peter Hammerle and Anthony Nyhuis, the team is sure to have a promising season. Both Hammerle and Nyhuis are also committed to play Division III baseball in college. Hammerle will be at Fairleigh Dickinson University, and Nyhuis will be at Lesley University.
Softball:
After last year’s merger with Kinnelon, the LRHS softball team has a weighted roster with many contributing assets. Twin seniors Olivia and Julia McCormick had a successful season last year pitching, catching, and batting and are expected to continue their success. Other seniors on the team this year are Ella Debonis, Samantha Buynie, and Sophia Parisi. Coming back from a 14-11 record last season, the team is hoping to be more victorious in the abundant amount of games played.
Girls Track and Field:

(LRHS)
After an extremely successful winter season of becoming conference champions, the spring team is just as determined for even more championships. After coming up short to PCTI for the county title, the whole team would agree that the title is the goal for this season. Last season, the girls were 4-1 in their dual championship, but their plans for this year include beating Wayne Hills and becoming conference chams. With talented leaders and seniors Catherine Wiley, Brianna Rodriguez, Isabella Andriulli, and Laiana Anderson, the team has a promising shot at the county title.
Boys Track and Field:
After a devastating season last year with only one win in the dual championship, the boys team is looking forward to redemption. After an incredibly improved winter season, the team is expected to beat most of the teams they lost to last season. The boys are also hoping for a County Relay win, which seems very possible. Big point scorers include seniors Brody McCormack and Gregory Ehrmann, along with juniors Logan Gray, Zach Post, and Evan Caldwell.
Boys Volleyball:
Following a 12-11 record last season and losing some valuable seniors, the boys volleyball team is expected to have a young, determined team. Head Coach Brian Phillips told the Lancer Ledger that the seniors on the team this year will be great leaders and role models towards the new and younger players. Since the team is so young, it will take some time for the team to become used to playing with each other and understanding their dynamic. However, Phillips believes that “by the middle to end of the [season], I feel we will have put it all together.”
Golf:
The golf team here at Lakeland may be one of the smallest teams, but their talent doesn’t go unnoticed. After a 4-5 record last year, the team is looking to gain more wins than losses this season. Junior Matthew VanderWeele especially stands out for this team, containing the most stats out of anyone. Seniors Ryan Giordano, Ryan Langenmeyer, and Sami Essabbar will also contribute significantly to the team’s success.
Boys Tennis:
Another small team at Lakeland is the boys tennis team. With a 5-9 record last season, the team hopes to improve their wins and also have better individual performances. Head Coach Richard Wiley claims that senior Gavin Raudenbush is a significant asset to the team. He also noted that the team’s entire starting lineup is different this season. Although the small team may not be able to compare to larger teams in the conference and county, Wiley claims that their goal this season is to “have fun playing and to be competitive against our opponents.”
Games, meets, and matches will happen over the course of the end of the school year. Visit the LRHS athletics page for full detailed schedules, live streams, and more information about our talented spring teams. Good luck Lancers!
