Mr. Donn Reeves is February’s Staff Member of the Month for English.
Ms. Jamie Cawley, humanities supervisor, nominated Mr. Reeves because she believes that he is extremely deserving of this honor as he’s dedicated to his craft with his dynamic and engaging lessons that are always student-centered lessons.
When Ledger, along with Ms. Cawley, arrived at Mr. Reeves’s classroom to give him his award, he was initially very surprised. When asked about his thoughts for receiving the award, he said, “I’m surprised, and it’s very nice to be acknowledged and recognized.”
Mr. Reeves has been at Lakeland since 1991, as a freshman in high school. Fun fact, during his senior year in 1995, he received the distinction of Student of the Month for fine arts! In 2010, Mr. Reeves would return to Lakeland to be a substitute teacher before becoming a full time English teacher in 2011. Mr. Reeves shared that one the most enjoyable parts of teaching is getting to open his students to new ideas and to understand the texts (books) that they review.
Fun Fact: Mr. Reeves enjoys drawing and painting, and is an outstanding artist!
