Lakeland Regional High School’s girls varsity soccer team played a very challenging yet rewarding season.
From the first practice to the last whistle, the girls have worked to end with a record of 6-13-1.
Throughout the seasons, the Lancers have faced tough competition; however, their hard work, effort, and teamwork were their greatest strengths. Without the outstanding performances from many players, the season may not have been as successful. Coach Chris Chouljian highlighted how senior Laiana Anderson, senior Natalie Centurione, senior Julia McCormick, senior Olivia McCormick, junior Adelyn Smith, sophomore Jaelynn Vivanco, and freshman Jenna Zahr had very outstanding performances throughout the season.
For LHRS, Centruione played midfield and helped lead the team to many victories. She has had an outstanding season with seven goals, eight assists, and 22 points and was named one of the team captains. Centurione earned all conference and all county first team. Centruione will be continuing her soccer career playing division I soccer at Virginia Military Institute.
Smith also showcased an excellent performance for the 2024 varsity girls soccer season. She currently plays as a forward. By the end of the season she had 11 goals, one assists, and 23 points. Smith earned all conference first team, all county second team, and managed to score against some of the toughest competition in North Jersey.
One of the season’s highlights was versusing Wayne Valley in the county quarterfinals. In previous years, Wayne Valley had been a team that had beaten us every time we had played, Coach Chouljian shares. The girls knew what was at stake, in that, this game was part of the path to try to get to a county championship. According to Coach Choulijan, “The conditions of the game were also very difficult, it was about 40 degrees and very windy. The girls came out and played a phenomenal game that we ended up winning 2-1.”
As the season went on, LRHS varsity girls soccer continued to show resilience and withstand every challenging game thrown at them. The team was overall a great example of dedication, respect, and what it means to really be a team. The team’s success and hard work have not only brought pride to our school’s name but also inspired the under classmen to work hard so they can live up to the title of playing for LRHS.
