For the month of January, sophomore Marely Lopez Tenorio is the Student of the Month for English as a Second Language.
With her hard work and good attitude in school, Tenorio was nominated by her ESL teacher Ms. Amy Saco. Ms. Saco writes, “[Marely] is a hard worker and has progressed nicely in English since her arrival last year.” With being enrolled in ESL and a mainstream English class under the regular sophomore curriculum, Tenorio has become a strong speaker in the English language.
When receiving the award, Tenorio was very visibly shocked and happy. With agreement and building up on what Ms. Saco said, Tenorio shares, “I worked really hard in school in general.” She feels as if she has made many new accomplishments at Lakeland Regional High School and she has become more comfortable with speaking English. Her favorite part about being in ESL and learning the language is that she gets to work along with friends and that she can continue creating more companionships because she has access to a class that allows her to learn the most common language that connects people.
Moving from Mexico her freshman year, Tenorio came to LRHS only being able to speak Spanish. As the school years progress, she got to learn more and more about English and grow her vocabulary.
After some long thinking and many endless options, Tenorio settled on her fun fact about herself being her favorite color, which happens to be pink.
