Senior Olivia McCromick is this December’s Student of the Month for athletics in girls wrestling.
Nominated by her wrestling coach, Mr. Joe Cervino, he shares that McCormick is a team captain and placed sixth at the Beast of the East National Tournament. In the previous years, she also qualified for and placed sixth in the NJ State Tournament. Mr. Cervino also writes that she is the best girl wrestler in Lakeland history.
Upon receiving this award, McCormick says she is very grateful as well as a bit surprised. She shares with the Ledger that she is happy that Mr. Cervino was able to recognize her hard work and she is proud to be named a captain. McCormick also states that her favorite part of wrestling is being able to help and guide the younger girls.
Fun fact: McCormick has only wrestled for 3 years. She is also considering wrestling in college.
