Senior Will Helphingstine is Student of Month for his role in helping create and grow LRHS’ Fishing Club.
Helphingstine told the Ledger he was excited about this recognition, and also for the club to get started again in the spring. Helphingstine was nominated by club advisor Mr. Timothy Conway. Conways shares, “Will has been president for all four years… During his time, Will has helped grow the program from 10 students (before his arrival) to 78 students (in his senior year).” Mr. Conway also shared how Helphingstine started the school’s competitive fishing team and expanded club to saltwater fishing trips.
Helphingstine says his favorite part of the club is getting to do a “fun thing with friends outside of school.” He believes his drive to get more students involved and working well with them is part of the reason he received this award.
Mr. Conway agrees, saying, “Will Helphingstine is an all around amazing young man who wholeheartedly deserves this honor of November’s Student of the Month.”
