Thanksgiving is the day of remembering everything one should be thankful for. It is also a day to be thankful for amazing food. Even though the day is known for its turkey, it’s the sides that can truly make the table.
The Ledger wanted to find out which side dish was at the top of the Thanksgiving day food pyramid for the Lancer community. The staff polled 50 students and staff members, and the results were both expected and surprising.
Although many on the Ledger staff thought stuffing would reign supreme, it was the mashed potatoes that took the Thanksgiving sides crown, 32% of the vote.
Not to say that stuffing was not at the top. With 22% of the vote, the side dish most associated with the holiday took home second place in the hearts of Lancers. One staff member, Spanish teacher Ms. Virginia Vasquez, said, “But only my mom’s.”
Baked, gooey, and delish, Macaroni and cheese came in third, with 18%.
The casseroles, corn bread (8%) and green bean/broccoli (6%), in all their comfort food glory took up the back of the vote. And although sophomore Noah Baker shared, “Cranberry sauce is terrible,” it still was not dead last, with 4% of the votes.
With only one vote each, sweet potatoes, turnips, salad, Brussel sprouts, mashed turnips, and rice added a dash of variety, and in some cases surprise, to the survey.
