Former President Donald Trump will be the 47th President of the United States after winning the 2024 election.
The election saw Trump secure 312 electoral votes, compared to Harris’s 226, taking all of the pivotal swing states, including Ohio, Michigan, Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
The race was called early Wednesday morning, November 6, with AP calling it at 5:34 a.m. after Trump won Wisconsin. Trump’s victory will make him only the second president to serve non-consecutive terms.
In his victory speech, President-elect Trump said he strives to help the country heal and that he will fight for every citizen, stating, “I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe and prosperous America that our children deserve and that you deserve. This will truly be the golden age of America, that’s what we have to have.”
Although there was speculation that the 2024 Election Day would involve unrest, the day went by smoothly, despite bomb threats in some key states.
The election results proved to be a surprise to some, such as historian Allan Lichtman, author of the book The Keys to the White House, who is known for making accurate predictions of nine out of 10 of the past presidential races. Using his model, Lichtman said a Harris win seemed inevitable; however, in reflection he reports that her late start into the race flawed his system.
