Early voting has started in the United States, and throughout the country people have already cast their ballots. With the election coming up on November 6, 2024, the results could tell us how the election is going to go.
Early voting will play a key role in several battleground states like Arizona, Nevada, and North Carolina. Early voting matters a lot for these states because they are often won by just a few votes, so early voting can make a very big difference and a huge tell on which candidate will take it.
One example of this is in Arizona, where 34% of early voters are registered as Democrats, 42% are Republicans, and 24% are voting for a third party. So, right now it looks like Republicans will win Arizona. Another state that early voting will affect greatly is North Carolina. Right now polls show that 33% of early voters are registered as Democrats, 34% being Republicans, and 33% being voters for a third party. This means that North Carolina will more than likely have a tighter race. Check out updated early voting statistics here.
According to an NBC News graph, as of November 1, over 62 million people have already voted all around the country. Around 41% are Democrats, 40% are Republican, and 19% are other. These votes show that the election is going to be incredibly close, much like the 2016 election and the 2020 election.
The early votes can also show what states different parties have almost certainly won, with most of these known as “safe states” for parties because they are almost guaranteed to win the state. For instance, Wyoming with 78% registered as Republicans and Idaho with 63%. New Jersey has 60% of voters registered as Democrats.
Early voting will started in New Jersey on October 23 and goes until November 3. As of November 1, over 645,000 people have already cast mail in or early votes in New Jersey.
If you have registered to vote and 18 by November 5, remember to vote early or on Election Day – Tuesday, November 5. Find out where your polling location is here.
