The Lakeland Regional High School community brought the spirit of ‘Spooky Season’ at the fall pep rally on Friday, October 4, 2024.
The event, which is run by the Student Council, celebrated fall sports and Lancer pride through music, games, and performances. They also decked out the gym with Halloween decorations and fueled the competitive spirit by separating each grade level in the bleachers.
Student Council Activities Coordinator, senior Rebecca Stoffel, shared that the student organization started planning the event the second week of school. The Student Council is led by physical education teacher and coach Ms. Nicole DeCarlo.
Play-by-Play:
Senior Rebekah Setti and technology teacher Ms. Jon Lauder MC’ed the event, which opened with a moving a cappella rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
The band then took center stage, with Clara Vargas, junior, directing “Sweet Carolina,” followed by the introduction of each of our fall sport’s captains.
LRHS cheerleading came on and brought the energy. Between the cheer, dance, tumbling, and stunts, no one was left questioning how much skill, dedication, and precision goes into the sport.
Fun continued with a teacher and students game of musical chairs that saw a football and field hockey showdown. Gym teacher Mr. Joe Cervino was the last teacher standing, but did not make it to the final three. CJ Palatucci, freshman, and Issac Demesa, junior, made it to the finals, with Demesa winning with cheers of “We love Isaac” echoing throughout the gym.
Next up, LRHS’ award winning band and color guard took to the gym floor and set the mood for ‘spooky season’ with a sampling of their show Something Wicked. The color guard mesmerized the crowd with their flag-throwing skills that emphasized the drama of the band’s musical performance. Vargas once again took the lead as drum major, directing a flawless show. Halfway through the performance, Skie Larsen, junior, switched from her brass to shred on her electric guitar, bringing cheers from the student body.
A mummy relay race came next, with teachers posing as mummies as students wrapped them in toilet paper. Sporting head-to-toe mummy garb, Ms. Jamie Cawley, supervisor, made it back and forth across the gym, beating fellow mummy, Mr. Brian Phillips, by a photo finish.
The crowd was then treated to a collaborative routine by the Lancer football team and cheerleaders, dancing to “Hot to Go,” with some players rocking out with hip popping and pom-poms.
To finish the event, seniors smoked the freshmen in a tug-a-war competition, followed by the juniors taking the ‘W’ against the sophomores in a much closer race. The freshmen versus sophomore game saw the freshmen literally dragged to defeat. Taking home victory and bragging right, the Class of 2025 once again showed their strength, beating the juniors.
