Travis Kelce, tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, has made quite a splash in the sports entertainment industry. With three Super Bowl Championships already under his belt, Kelce has been offered many opportunities to grow his brand, which includes a hosting gig on Saturday Night Live. While hosting, Kelce found himself interested in other aspects of the acting world, and is now trying to land roles in new upcoming adaptations. According to Fox Sports, Kelce’s agents are “considering movie roles, developing unscripted shows for the star, exploring comedy opportunities and pursuing product endorsements.”
Since September 2022, both Travis and his brother Jason have hosted the New Heights podcast, where they’ve made quite an impact in the media industry. Here, the two discuss their experiences on and off the field during football season, while also discussing their takes on NFL & sports headlines. The two will also regularly host celebrities and other NFL teammates, where they ask for their opinion on a plethora of topics. As stated by Marca, the podcast has been extremely successful, and is set to reach “a valuation of $100 million.”
While Travis has been able to make his presence known in entertainment through his podcast, he’s recently been experimenting with the acting side of the industry, and has secured a role in an upcoming horror production. As confirmed by Niecy Nash-Betts, Kelce will be starring alongside her in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming horror series, Grotesquerie. In an Instagram post, Nash-Betts asks, “Guys, guess who I am working with on Grotesquerie?,” immediately flipping the camera to Kelce, who adds, “Jumping into new territory with Niecy!” Besides Nash-Betts, Kelce’s other co-stars include Tony and Emmy winner Courtney B. Vance and The Crown alum Lesley Manville. While most of the show’s elements are yet to be uncovered, Murphy publicly released a part of Nash-Betts’ character’s portentous monologue in February, in which she states, “There’s been a shift, like something’s opening up in the world. A kind of hole to descend into a nothingness. What I saw today? They sent shrinks for everyone who worked this crime scene.”
Besides snagging a role on Grotesquerie, Kelce is also trying his hand at producing. He was given his first executive producer credit on a film called My Dead Friend Zoe, which made its premiere at the South by Southwest Film Festival in March 2024. Described as a dark comedy, My Dead Friend Zoe details a U.S. Army veteran struggling with the loss of her best friend all while trying to manage a relationship with her alienated grandfather. The film stars Ed Harris, Natalie Morales, and Sonequa Martin-Green, who have all been given the title of executive producer beside Kelce.
While Kelce seems to be fixed on his current media presence, there are no signs indicating that the 34-year old will be retiring from the field anytime soon. After the Chief’s Super Bowl win last February, Kelce released a short statement assuring fans that he will be playing in the 2024 season as Kansas City continues to train to become the NFL’s first ever three-peat Super Bowl Champions.
