The cheer team at Lakeland Regional High School had a phenomenal winter season, competing around the nation and excelling due to hard work and dedication.
The cheer team had one of their most successful seasons in Lakeland history as they took first at the county championship. The team also placed eighth in the conference and won a national championship in Florida.
Reflecting on the season, Coach Erin Laudie said, “The best and most memorable part of the season was winning counties. This was the first year we won a Passaic County Cheerleading Championship and the trophy was named after Mrs. Poppe, a former Lakeland cheerleading coach. To be the first ever to win the county is very special.” Laudie also talked about the Florida experience, saying, “Florida was a great experience. Being able to perform under the bright lights at the same competition some of the top teams in the country perform at is really special. The trip also brings the team a lot closer together which carried us through the rest of the season.”
Senior captain Kira Bosland will miss cheering for Lakeland. Her favorite part of the season was the trip to Florida, saying, “Competing in Florida was a great experience. It was exciting to compete in a new environment and be able to watch new teams compete that we have never seen before.” She also mentioned the excitement that came with winning counties.
The cheer team has a bright future for years to come and will continue to make moves.
