Taylor Swift is the woman who does it all: concerts, newly released albums, relationships, and so much more. And now, Swift is Time’s 2023 Person of the Year.
Time says, “Swift is also a symbol of generational change: she is only the fourth solo Person of the Year born in the past half century.” She has an ability not many have, from song writing, to musician, to singer, to performer, and she keeps making her name better and better. This award was well chosen, and Taylor Swift will continue to prove why she deserves it.
Swift has created albums of different genres of music throughout her lifetime, connecting with a wide audience due to her ability, as Time states, to connect. And connect she did. As of July 2023, AP reported that Swift has recorded more number one albums than any other female artist in history.
Speaking of her work, all of Swift’s albums, or ‘eras,’ tell a story. Her music is influenced by her personal life experiences that people of all ages and phases can relate to. For instance, her ‘Red’ era, and Red album, coincide with a time where Swift was moving out of her country and innocent eras and into her now familiar pop sound. According to Marie Claire, this era was the beginning of Swift’s shift into a more mature artist.
Swift owns each era of her career, and in 2023 launched “The Eras Tour.” As of now, the AP reports the tour has made $1.04 billion, and Swifties around the world report that ticket prices are worth every penny.
On top of her many accolades, Swift is also becoming an ‘NFL sensation’ as she is currently dating the Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Swift has clearly increased football’s popularity, with videos and pictures being taken of Swift and Travis at every game or event they are seen at together, and Swifties everywhere are loving this new era.
