Dave Filoni, an influential figure within the Star Wars universe, has been promoted to Chief Creative Officer at Lucasfilm. According to Variety and Forbes, Filoni announced his promotion to Vanity Fair on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.
Filoni hopes his more involved role will benefit both the people continuing to expand the Star Wars universe and the fans who enjoy it. He plans to help in resolving challenges and giving advice, explaining that being involved firsthand will allow for better communication and a new perspective.
Filoni has been a part of the Star Wars universe since he worked on the 2008 movie Clone Wars. Involved in the past as an executive producer of all Star Wars shows, but many times without much involvement until after projects had been developed, this new position will ensure a much more involved role. Filoni has worked on several Star Wars shows, including, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars: Rebels, The Mandalorian, and, most recently, Ahsoka.
Filoni also revealed that he is exploring a possible second season of Ahsoka. Several other shows and films are also being planned, including a second season of Andor and a potential film bridging the gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.
Overall, this is an exciting time for the Star Wars universe for both creators and fans alike. Hopefully, Filoni’s new and distinguished role will continue to bring joy, excitement and surprise to fans of the vast and still expanding science fiction universe.
