With winter break almost here, a lot of us are spending more time with loved ones. A tradition for many is sitting down to their favorite holiday movie. Here are family friendly and comical movies to watch this holiday season:
The Polar Express
A classic old Christmas movie is The Polar Express. It’s about a young boy not having any Christmas spirit who sees a mysterious train. He sees other children running to get on and the conductor invites him on the train. The train leads them to the North Pole, and they get to visit Santa Claus while he is preparing for Christmas. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, The Polar Express came out on November 10, 2004, it quickly became a holiday classic.

Elf
In Elf, starring Will Ferrell, Buddy was raised as one of Santa’s elves. At the age of 30, he finds out that he’s not an elf, that his father is in New York, and is on Santa’s naughty list. Buddy goes to New York to find his father and sees the real world. Buddy also has to get his father off the naughty list and help save Santa. He is faced with many difficult challenges, but in the end, his family accepts him for who he is. This movie is also a fan favorite, and was directed by Jon Favreau and written by David Berenbaum. Elf came out November 7, 2003.
It is streaming on Hulu, Apple TV, and Amazon Prime.
Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York
In Home Alone, Macaulay Culkin starred as Kevin, a young kid who was left home alone after his family went on a trip. Not only did he have to take care of himself with no one around, during that period of time, there were two men trying to rob his house and he had to defend himself. Kevin had many strategies to get rid of the men trying to rob his house, many that were both creative and hysterical. His family rushes home to try and get to him, but by the time they get there, Kevin had everything figured out.
In Home Alone 2, Kevin was not left home alone but stranded in New York by himself. He mistook another man for his father and got on a plane to New York instead of Florida. He is met again with the same men, the Sticky Bandits, and is getting chased by them. Once again, Kevin has a bunch of other strategies to get rid of them.
Both Home Alones are great movies, and staples of the 1990s. Both are streaming on Disney Plus, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Apple TV.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Although there are several versions of Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, starring Jim Carrey, has become an instant holiday classic. The movie is about how the Grinch wants to ruin Christmas in Whoville because everyone was rude to him as a child, which left him very bitter. He tries to steal presents from everyone’s house, but ends up having some empathy for the holiday and the people. However, when the rudeness starts again, the Grinch had the idea to dress up as Santa to try and stop Christmas and silence Whoville once and for all. This fan favorite has been lighting up Christmas screens since 2000.

Christmas Chronicles 1 & 2
In the Christmas Chronicles, siblings Kate and Perry Pierce come up with a plan to capture Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. Their plan goes awful and now they have to help Santa and his elves save Christmas. They run over all of Chicago to find the reindeers and get Santa’s sleigh back together.
The adventure continues in Christmas Chronicles 2. Santa goes and picks up the siblings on their Christmas vacation to help him save Christmas again, only this time, they have to go against Santa’s elves because they were taken over.
Released in 2018 and 2020, these movies are entertaining and amusing. Both movies are streaming on Netflix.
Overall these movies are perfect for the families. They are all heartwarming and comical at the same time.
